Os Trigonum Syndrome
Os Trigonum Syndrome
Description
Os Trigonum Syndrome is the presence of an extra bone known as “Os Trigonum”. This extra bone is present on one or both feet at birth. With the presence of this extra bone, tissue can get trapped between it and other bones of the foot, causing pain, stiffness and lower plantar flexion around the ankle joints.
How did this happen?
- Ankle sprains
- Constant downward pointing of toes
What should I do?
- Rest the affected foot
- Anti-inflammatory medicine can be used to relieve pain
- Seek help from a podiatrist
What kind of help can I get?
- A podiatrist can provide guidance on appropriate footwear choices and recommend exercises to manage symptoms and improve foot function. The use of a cam walker, a special boot or brace, may be prescribed to support the foot and ankle and facilitate healing. Low-Level Laser Therapy can be used as a non-invasive treatment modality to reduce pain and inflammation. In cases where symptoms persist despite conservative treatment, surgery may be considered as a last resort to remove the extra bone or address any associated complications.
How long till it recovers?
- It can take up to 6 - 8 weeks to see improvements. The mentioned recovery time of 6-8 weeks aligns with the general timeline for seeing improvements in Os Trigonum Syndrome. However, it's important to note that the recovery duration may vary depending on the individual's specific condition, the severity of symptoms, and their adherence to the recommended treatment plan.
It's crucial to consult with a podiatrist for an accurate diagnosis, personalized treatment plan, and guidance specific to your condition. They can provide a comprehensive evaluation and recommend the most appropriate course of action based on your symptoms and individual needs.
