Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction

Description

Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction or PTTD is the overextension of the posterior tibial tendon. This can lead to inflammation, pain, arthritis, and flat feet. The PTTD is a major supporting tendon and with its failure, the arch can collapse, causing flat feet. The symptoms of pain will then slowly worsen over time.

  • Women over the age of 50 are at a higher risk of developing this condition
  • Obesity
  • Hypertension
  • Diabetes 
  • Trauma 
  • Arthritis 
  • Previous surgery
  • Excessive force on the foot

What should I do?

  • Rest the affected foot
  • Anti-inflammatory medication can be used to reduce pain and inflammation
  • Seek help from a podiatrist
